Dr Jim Kennedy, Prescribing Spokesperson for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), said:
'There is growing concern that Cox-2 inhibitor drugs may increase the risk of a stroke or heart attack among patients with a history of cardiovascular or
vascular disease. General practitioners should therefore exercise extreme caution in prescribing Cox-2 drugs to these groups of patients. However, there
are a number of suitable alternative medications which are just as effective at controlling symptoms. If people are concerned, they should make a non-
urgent appointment with their pharmacist or GP.'
